The MySQL developers announced the end of life for the MySQL 5.6 version on February 5, 2021. This means that version will not be supported after that date.

To keep our cPanel Shared Hosting servers up to date and secure we will proceed to upgrade the MySQL server on them to MySQL 5.7.

This upgrade is necessary as after the EOL of the current version the MySQL servers are at risk of not receiving essential patches to security vulnerabilities and running into compatibility issues with other software components.

We have scheduled this upgrade for January, we will announce the exact date some weeks before the upgrade date.

If you are running any open source script like Wordpress, Joomla, etc. Make sure you have the latest version of the scripts and also the plugins, modules and themes included in them. Most of the latest versions of these scripts support MySQL 5.7.

If you have any custom script or program running in your hosting account please contact the developers of the script to check the compatibility with the MySQL 5.7 version.

Note this upgrade is server wide and can't be reverted back. We highly recommend you take a backup of your dbases before the upgrade date. You can do this through your cPanel, in the Backups section.

MySQl 5.7 will bring many benefits, you can read more about them at https://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.7/en/mysql-nutshell.html

If you have any question please open a support ticket and we will be glad to assist you.

Thank you in advance!
